Swedish Living Lab to Present Innovation Case Study at Open Living Lab Day (OLLD) 2025
We are excited to share that the Swedish Living Lab will present an innovation case study at this year’s Open Living Lab Days (OLLD 2025) in Andorra la Vella on 2nd October. The session will take place as part of the Living Labs Operations, Methods, Tools, and Impacts track.
The presentation, led by Alina Östling, Hayley Ho, and Fanny Lindh from RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, will showcase innovative approaches developed within the iCOSHELLs project, which supports the EU Mission “A Soil Deal for Europe.”
At the heart of the work is a big challenge: how to bridge the gap in soil literacy. Many of us are disconnected from the soil beneath our feet, yet soil is central to ecosystem resilience, climate action, and food security. The Swedish team has been developing creative, participatory methods to change this, treating soil not just as a resource but as a living entity and community stakeholder.
During the session, they will introduce four tools designed and tested within the iCOSHELLs Living Labs:
- Local Soil: recognising soil as a living entity with needs and capabilities
- Community Soil: positioning soil as part of the community, leading to a collective manifesto
- Systems Soil: exploring soil in the wider context of climate justice, history, and knowledge systems
- Soil Walk: engaging participants with soil through embodied, place-based encounters
These methods aim to foster deeper awareness, dialogue, and collaboration around soil health, turning research into practice and sparking new ways of thinking about the ecosystems we depend on.
We look forward to seeing the Swedish Living Lab share their experiences and insights at OLLD 2025, alongside Living Labs from across Europe and beyond.
