iCOSHINE Session #3 Recap and Takeaways

After introducing iCOSHINE last year, session #3 took place on 19th March 2026. iCOSHINE is an initiative within the frame of the iCOSHELLs project, and it aims to provide a platform for stakeholders to exchange knowledge and explore synergies to the benefit of European soil health at large. With a focus on Soil Literacy and Pop-up Events, session #3 engaged participants and encouraged insightful contributions, sparking dialogue and adding great value to both parts of the session

Part 1: Exhibition Session – Soil Literacy in Practice

The first part of the session featured inspiring inputs from Juliana Devis (SoilTribes), Javier Montellano (CURIOSOIL), Tetiana Grabovska (SoilScape), and Hayley Ho and Alina Östling (iCOSHELLs).

These guest speakers showcased practical examples of how soil literacy can be communicated through interactive, creative, and educational formats. Please find the recording here.

Part 2: Co-creation Session – Designing Pop-up Events for three iCOSHELLs LL setting

In the second part of the session, participants worked in three breakout groups to co-create draft different approaches for soil literacy pop-up events based on scenarios of iCOSHELLS Living Labs.

  1. Fairs and public events based on the scenario setting for the Swedish Living Lab – co-created brainstorm available here.
  2. In situ field demonstrations based on the scenario setting for the Greek Living Lab – co-created brainstorm available here.
  3. Student-based or youth-focused activities based on the scenario setting for the Bulgarian Living Lab – co-created brainstorm available here.

As the session was concluded, participants were left with the following takeaways:

🏙️ Start with the setting! The main design should build on the event context and help position the core message clearly.

🤝 Keep the target group in mind! The pop-up should be designed around the needs and interests of the people you want to engage.

🌱 Design for experience! It is important to create new and tangible experiences, not only provide information.

✍ Provide takeaways! Providing participants with tangible takeaways (e.g. prompts, materials, or reflections) can help extend engagement beyond the event itself.

Next session: Longevity of Living Labs

We look forward to welcoming you to our next iCOSHINE session on “Longevity of Living Labs”, which is planned for the second or third week of May 2026. Stay tuned, invitations will follow soon.
